White House Schools: Both New and Traditional

It was only a few years ago that all students in White House attended the same school system: White House community schools. The youngest children attended Robert Woodall Elementary. Children of middle school age attended White House Middle School, and White House High School was responsible for every student's final phase of local education.

Today, however, you can find White House children attending either traditional public schools, private schools or public magnet schools. Population growth in the area has led to increased diversity in educational options and growth in the overall public school system.

White House Christian Academy is a local private school. Grace Park Baptist Church also offers a private Christian education for area students, and Merrol Hyde Magnet School, in Hendersonville, serves students who qualify with a certain grade point average and test scores. There is also a thriving community of home schooled children in White House.

In addition to White House High School, which used to be the only public high school in the city limits, we now have Heritage High School as well. White House High (grades 9-12) is operated by Sumner County, while Heritage High (grades 6-12) is operated by Robertson County. Some students also attend East Robertson High School (grades 6-12), located outside the White House city limits.

There are also two public elementary schools within the town of White Hosue: Robert Woodall (grades K-5), operated by Roberston County, and H. B. Williams (K-5), operated by Sumner County. Some students also attend East Robertson Elementary School (grades K-5), which is located outside the White House city limits. White House Middle School serves grades 6 through 8 for Sumner County children.

As school services expand, changes are taking place on a yearly basis. In mid 2003, White House Christian Academy broke ground for a new facility on North Palmers Chapel Road in White House. Also, beginning in the 2003-2004 school year, Heritage High School, White House Christian Academy and Merrol Hyde Magnet School will be admitted into the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TSSAA). Heritage High will begin its football season classified as Class 1A, Region 4. White House Christian Academy will participate in Division I and be placed in either District 8-A or 10-A. Merrol Hyde will most likely begin its competition in District 8-A or 10-A as well. An article in the Gallatin News Examiner appeared on June 6, 2003 heralding some of these events.
